confections of Hostess, and Batman galore,
in darkest of living rooms I took my throne,
as Mario bright on my TV screen shone.
Ode to hot wheels, and marbles, and pogs,
in a time before terror, confusion, or blogs.
In playground games did we break way from command,
to become ninja-turtles fighting across the land.
To life without reason, conviction, or duties,
where the Olson Twins ruled over the girls with cooties,
(and the only redemption that the dread sex could show
was how I secretly dug that Madeline show.)
Ode to sugary cereal glued to the bowl,
as the flashing cartoon lights bore into my soul.
Without logic and reason to condemn my convictions,
my world full of gods with compulsive depictions.
To finger-paint histories all set in stone,
to portentous discussions with friends on the phone.
To the pets who are gone and will never return
when emotions were things that I could not discern.
